Hundreds of competitors from all around the globe met in Tavistock, Ontario on June 7th to compete for the World Crokinole Championship title, and the event did not disappoint! The top 12 round robin in doubles featured two highly competitive pools with several new teams debuting at the World Championships. Of those 12, two rose to the top: Fred and Justin Slater, the returning 2024 World Crokinole Champions, and Andrew Hutchinson with Jeremy Tracey, fresh off of their first place finish at the 2025 US Open Crokinole Championship. With a race to 7 points as the finale, team Hutchinson and Tracey took the victory and title of World Crokinole Doubles Champions! Watch the full match here:
After the doubles, players quickly found their seats to begin the singles portion of the tournament. After the preliminary round, followed by the round of 32, eight players moved on to the quarterfinal round. Andrew Hutchinson and Connor Reinman had a rematch of their 2023 World Finals, except this time Hutchinson took the victory in 2 games. Jeremy Tracey took on Devon Fortino, and the newcomer quickly took down one half of the new World Doubles Championship team. Jason Beierling had a rematch against Shawn Hagarty from their London Championship Semifinal, and again, the tables turned from their previous match with Hagarty winning the quarterfinal in two. Finally, Justin Slater and Eric Mammen from the Greater Boston Crokinole Club put on a barn burner of a match (most certainly the highlight of the quarterfinals, with Slater eventually winning the third game 6-4.
In the semifinal round, Fortino and Hutchinson played for the third time in an elimination round at a tournament, and Fortino was victorious again after winning the third game of the semifinal. Meanwhile, Hagarty and Slater had a shorter game, with Hagarty taking the win over Slater with back-to back wins. A crucial note: Hagarty and Fortino defeating Hutchinson and Slater was the deciding factor that won Josh Carrafiello the 2024-25 National Crokinole Association tour!
And that brings us to the FINALS! Fortino and Hagarty went to war, giving the audience and the globe a match fitting for a World Championship title. Congratulations to Shawn Hagarty, the NEW UNDISPUTED 2025 WORLD CROKINOLE CHAMPION! Watch the full championship match below:
A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the volunteers and organizers who made this event possible; without them, there wouldn’t be such an amazing event. Enjoy the coverage everyone, and stay tuned for more crokinole action!
International Crokinole Day: August 20th
Wouldn’t it be lovely if there was one day a year that was set aside just for crokinole? Not for a tournament: just for the love of the game. To have some food and drinks, friends, and laughs around the crokinole board as you played to your hearts content? That is the vision of The Hogan’s Alley Podcast out of the UK. The podcast team is spearheading an effort to make August 20th the official International Crokinole Day. To make that happen, we need your help!
Here’s what you can do to help make August 20th live up to the title of International crokinole day:
Plan a crokinole night: The easiest way you can support the day is to break out the board on August 20th, invite some friends and family over, and start playing!
Bring a board out somewhere: A pub, a games cafe, or anywhere that has a table and a few chairs!
Share your crokinole day with the world: Take photos and videos, and let the world know that you’re celebrating international crokinole day!
SPREAD THE WORD: Let people know that you’ll be celebrating International Crokinole Day, and let’s get as many people as we can to break out their boards for this special occasion!
To learn more, check out the Crokinole UK website and the Hogan’s Alley Podcast to see what else you can do in support of International Crokinole Day.
As a closing note: We have something BIG coming up to build the hype for International Crokinole day! We can’t give it away yet, but it’ll be announced on our Instagram this month, so follow our instagram to stay tuned!
Crokinole Club Feature: The Sydenham Crokinole Group
The Sydenham Crokinole Group officially began meeting on October 6, 2022, following a few months of casual games between Winson, Gary, and Bob. Thanks to the generous support of Sydenham Legion Branch 496—who allow the group to use their lounge—the weekly Thursday sessions (2–5 PM) have grown steadily. The Sydenham group now has eleven regular players and continues to welcome new faces. Anticipating continued growth, funds were pooled to purchase two used tournament-quality boards and commissioned a custom storage cabinet, to hold eight boards and supplies.
The group follow tournament rules during play to help prepare anyone interested in attending formal competitions. In addition to standard singles and doubles play, they mix it up with three-player games, novelty boards (like the five-hole and three-person “trident” board), and even Crokinole card games. With some help from the Legion’s website and a recent mention in the local Frontenac News, the group has started to get some momentum!
The group operates informally—no executive, no minutes—just a shared love of the game. While they’re not quite ready to host a tournament ourselves (yet!), they’d love to connect with anyone in the area (about 25 km north of Kingston) who might be interested in joining them. There’s no cost to play, so feel free to reach out at [email protected] or just drop by!
