Crokinole in the Media: “The Bleacher Report” and “Streets of Toronto”

Crokinole got some notable shout-outs on some big channels: first, The Bleacher Report Tik Tok account (following of 11.2 Million people) reposted a reel of a double perfect round from the St. Alban’s Crokinole Final from the Crokinole UK tour. This video had gone viral on our socials (over a half million views on Instagram AND Tik Tok, each), making it our most recent viral sensation.

After that, Streets of Toronto Instagram account (a following of approximately 604K people) reposted a fun reel taken over the holiday season. With all of the snowfall, Garret’s friends built a Quinzhee Hut (a miniature igloo) and played a game of crokinole in it. Both our original post and the repost from Streets of Toronto got around 50K views!

5-Hole Crokinole… What is It?

A 5-Hole Crokinole Board

For those who have fallen in love with the game of crokinole, you may be curious about the board above: why in the world is there 4 additional holes in the 10 region?

This is 5-hole crokinole: all of the normal rules of the game still apply, with one addition. The 4 holes in the 10 region (with a red bottom rather than a black) are worth negative 10 points! A piece that lands in these holes is immediately removed, and counts as minus 10 for whoever that piece belonged to.

This leads to some infuriating fun, and a way to take points off of your opponent – rather than go for the simple takeout, why not take the slightly riskier shot to knock their button into the -10 hole? If you’re already good at crokinole, this variation tests your skills in a new way that leads to even more laughs and smiles around the board.

The only other rule, which is worth keeping in mind: if you make an invalid shot that lands in one of these four holes, it still counts as negative 10. For example, if you miss the opponent piece on your shot, and land in one of these four holes, it’s not just invalid: it’s invalid AND you lose 10 points. So, be careful!

Crokinole Coverage: Divine Duos & Elmira Winter Classic

Since our last newsletter, we’ve covered two must-watch tourneys: the Divine Duos hosted by the Queen City Crokinole club, and the Elmira Winter Crokinole Classic, hosted by Andrew Hutchinson and Tracey Boards very own Jeremy Tracey.

The Divine Duos is a Tier Three National Crokinole Association event, a South East Crokinole Circuit tourney, AND the finale to the Queen City semi-annual doubles league. In the finals there was Jamie Harter: current top ten NCA player, and Michael Barth: who placed third at the North Star Cup, VERSUS Ben Harding: champion of the Columbus Doubles event alongside Brandyn Osborne, and Ethan Landry: attending his second ever Divine Duos event. The semifinal matches are on our channel, but the final can be found below on the USA Crokinole Videos YouTube channel – enjoy!

Shortly after the Divine Duos was the Elmira Winter Crokinole Classic, a Tier One NCA event that has ran now for four years. Eight of the best players in the circuit made it to the quarterfinal round, with only two making it through the gauntlet to play in the finals: Ryan Buhr: the 2025 Ontario Doubles Champ, winner of SIX Tier 3 tourneys, and 2nd in the NCA standings, VERSUS Josh Carrafiello: the 2024-25 NCA Tour Champion, 2025 Ontario Singles Champ, and semifinalist at every Tier One singles event so far this season. With both players looking for their first Tier One singles win this tour, this is a battle that you can’t miss out on. Enjoy the final, as well as all of the coverage leading up to it on our channel.
